Instagram recently announced that they will be cracking down on users who are using third-party apps to boost their popularity on the popular social media platform. Oh yes, there are third-party apps that will go through and “like” or “comment” on your behalf while you do other things like shop at Target, sleep, eat, or make money.
Soon, users that are doing this will be getting a direct message from Instagram which will be a basic slap on the wrist.
“Accounts we identify using these services will receive an in-app message alerting them that we have removed the inauthentic likes, follows and comments given by their account to others. We will also ask them to secure their account by changing their password. People who use these types of apps share their username and password, and their accounts are sometimes used by third-party apps for inauthentic likes, follows and comments. Not only does this introduce bad behavior into the Instagram community, it also makes these accounts less secure.”
So, if you are doing this, expect some stern looks from Instagram. If you are NOT doing this, you have nothing to worry about. Though, you MAY notice some change in your engagement, once these accounts are weeded out. Kudos, Instagram! This is a step in the right direction.
